When I was driving today, about 20 minutes into my journey I had a problem with my gearbox.
I was in 5th. When I went to shift down I found that the gear was stuck - I gave it a tug and it went into neutral but then I was completely unable to select a gear. The gearstick would go side to side but wouldn't engage forwards or back.
I rolled to a halt and turned the engine off. Instantly I found that I could operate the gears again with no sticking at all. I started the car again and it worked fine for the remainder of my journey.
Shortly after I bought the car, a few months ago now, I'd noticed that the gearbox was covered in oil. I cleaned it off and took the car to an indy specialist who topped up the gearbox oil (a bit low, but not badly so) and were unable to locate a leak in the gearbox. (I'm not losing engine oil either).
I haven't seen any evidence of the gearbox leaking since then.
Any ideas what my problem might have been. I'm hoping it was a one off, not the start of something major!!!
