Generate Remote Locking Fob
I have just bought my first Alfa and am totally beguiled. It's a 1996 GTV 2.0 and everything seems to be in good order, touch wood!
The only problem is that the key feels brittle in the boot and door locks and I'm worried that it may snap. I am pretty sure that the car is fitted with remote locking as there is a receiver on the underside of the rear view mirror. Unfortunately the remote fob has been lost and I only have one red key which is definitely not the brown master one and another really small key with a round block end. I think this has something to do with the alarm although I can't find any evidence of one in the car - no obvious siren or box under the bonnet.
I have asked a couple of local shops who have told me that the only thing I can do is fit a new alarm system costing about £200.
Does anyone have any idea if it is possible to generate a new fob using just my car and, if necessary, the key with the transponder in it? All I really want to do is open the doors and boot remotely, I'm not bothered about an alarm.
Ideally, I would buy a cheap fob from somewhere and have it programmed to fit the system already in my car. Is this possible?
Any advice or solutions would be greatly appreciated.
