It has a reconditioned engine, reconditioned gearbox, Q2 diff, 2.5 flywheel, GTA clutch, lowered adjustable coilover suspension+polybushes, uprated discs/brake lines, an induction kit & Powerflow cat back exhaust. I've also sorted the suspension, A/C & fitted a new radiator. Total mileage is 139,000 but the engine has only done 13,000, gearbox/clutch 3,000 miles, brakes a few hundred. The last 2 owners are friends/enthusiasts, both spent an obscene amount of money maintaining & upgrading this car. It has also had a complete repaint a few years ago.
It's only 3 owners, has a 'short' GTV reg' worth between £500-£1000, WILL have the full Cup body kit costing approx £1500 & it's red!
I think that the 916 model is undervalued, especially the V6. What I'm finding difficult to understand is that they are undervalued by their owners, you.
As I stated in another thread 'Mr Parker(Parkers price guide) couldn't value a £5 note.
I've seen many cars become 'classics' over the last 3 decades & I think that the 916 will eventually become one too. An above average sorted example should not be confused with cars that need sorting. If anyone is lucky enough to buy a '916' for under £2k which doesn't need money throwing at it then good luck to them but most need paintwork, exhausts, brakes, cambelts, clutches and A/C work before they are 'retailable'. They are quite usable but not what I would consider ready for retail. I could go on but I think that covers it.
I think all the points you make here Clive are very valid. For some reason the 916 Alfas are desperately under-valued, unfairly so imho, and any trading activity such as your business which raises the profile of these charismatic Alfas must be for the good. The market of course will decide whether the price of your Alfas is right or wrong. Opinions expressed here are all fair enough but at the end of the day if your Alfas sell then they sell, and in so doing if they raise the profile of the 916 Alfas then so much the better! And as long as you describe them accurately (which I'm sure you do) then I fail to understand some of the moaning going on here!
I particularly like your comment about forum members undervaluing their own Alfas! This is both very funny and very true! I suspect rather that some of the side-swiping going on here is down to a little tinge of envy at someone such as yourself who has the energy, tenacity and balls to run such as business as this
Self-deprecation and moaning is a particular speciality of the British: all nations suffer this illness to a degree, but the British are masters of the technique, having practised it to perfection over many hundreds of years
Anyway, good luck with it Clive, look forward to seeing some of your very shiny and nicely presented 916 Alfas on here
