It seems as though the sensor in the fuel tank has something wrong with it as often my gauge will say I've got over half a tank when I know it's a 1/4 etc. After a while it will sometimes come down to the correct reading - but it has caught me out before (running out of petrol when it said there was half a tank left). Since then I've made sure I've always got plenty in, but it's still a little annoying.
Anyone know where the sensor is and how to get to it? It seems as though it is probably sludged up or something and gets caught giving a high reading.
It's a 99 Ph1 V6.
Hi, easiest way to reach the fuel level sensor is to remove the rear seat
(both seat and backrest) then you sees the cover on top of the tank (pict.1),
remove the cover and underneath it, you have the fuel pump and the fuel level
sensor (pict.2 and 3, obj.2 and 3).
The best is probably to get an used working fuel level sensor to change with.
Disconnecting the battery before you start working on the car.
Keep the doors open and do not stay too long in the car when you have removed the fuel level sensor, fuel fumes is not healthy.
Keep track of where you put your feet, it's easy to step on the air bag ECU connector
so that it breaks.
