98 2L GTV cooling fan electrical component

On my 98 GTV 2L there are two identical electrical component positioned on the shroud between the two cooling fans. They look like a resistor of some sort and have one brown and one white wire going to them. What function do they perform? Do you detect heat and switch fans on and off accoprding to reading?

That's right, you should have a single stage fan though sounds like you could have a CF2 system like mine, 2 stage fan. Kicks in at 90 degrees and then send stage should kick in around 97 degrees

Those two components are resistors; you have two speeds for the fans, with first (slow) speed @90șC the power/current for the fans goes through the resistors -so the battery voltage gets reduced and the fans get roughtly 10volts.
Second (fast) speed @97șC bypasses the two resistors and the fans get the full battery voltage of 12-14volts.

The two fans are in parallel by the way, so both turn slow or fast.
