OOps. I never updated this thread.
I fitted the panel from Autolusso, which was fairly straight forward. The plastic was damaged, so replacement is the way forward. I ended up seeing Autolusso in person and, as I bought a new rear badge at the same time, actually got the panel for a fiver.
The screws to get it off are very obvious, the only thing to watch out for is NOT yanking the old one off, no matter how tatty it looks, as the wash wiper hoses are attached to the panel itself on the underside by clips; not to some fixed part under the bonnet. Ease it off and undo the clips as soon as you've enough room to get your hand under. When both halves are off (they meet where the offside wiper is attached), simply reverse the process to install your new(ish) replacement.
PS. you'll need to remove the nearside wiper for all this, but not the offside one. Mine was stiff, but it can be removed by LEVERING the wiper off the base. CAnt remembered what I used to do it, but it wasnt too hard once I realised there was nothing to unscrew/etc.
