18"/40 profile wheel/tyre combo on a Spider - Ouch!
I agree with Jay W - replacing these would have the most dramatic effect on ride quality. They may not even be contributing that much to road holding anyway on anything but smooth flat dry tarmac, and the extra weight of the wheels and tyres means the springs and dampers have to work even harder, reducing ride quality/handling further on bumpy stuff.
A strut brace will remove what little compliance you have in your set up still further so is a step in the wrong direction for comfort. You could though soften everything else up and then add a strut brace. This would help to offset any handling lost through the softer set up, so should not be dismissed as an option.
Drive a standard one before you throw money at changing anything though - in standard form they are not exactly a magic carpet ride - you may decide the comfort gain by going back to a more standard setting is n't that marked over what you have after all.
Edit - Just noticed it is you Brassica. Presumably you can't get studded 18" 225/40 winter tyres in Norway so you may need a second set of wheels/tyres anyway!
