Snapped 2.0 TS Spider throttle cable repaired - now idling very high
About 6 weeks ago the throttle cable on my 1999 2.0 TS Spider snapped on the A3. Called the RAC and they fashioned a new cable at the roadside - drove fine for about 300 miles (was en route to a wedding). I took it into garage and ordered a replacement cable... about a month ago. Still no sign of the ellusive throttle cable. In the meantime have contacted various parts shops and friends who are in the trade have tried to find the replacement part but to no avail. Any ideas????
So far looking at a used spare but been quoted about 3 times what the new part costs for that with no guaruntee that its any good. I've also heard that there are people who "make" new cables?
In the meantime its started idling at around 2500 rpm, which in my limited mechanical knowledge, I am guessing is related to the bodged cable. Not really sure how to rectify this problem without some sort of replacement? Again any suggestions, past experience would be much appreciated.
