GTV tuning questions and ideas.
Owned my GTV for about 6 months now and i've loved it all through the summer..
Howéver recently I have really been feeling the pain of the running costs, the impracticality and such.
Because of this I actually have an Ad out on the car, a bit overpriced saying to myself that if someone is willing to pay the price then they can have her.
But oddly enough, what has COMPLETELY changed my mind about selling is... (drumroll) ...it breaking down...
Don't really understand it myself but thats the deal folks.
Whats has broken is the radiator. Now I love to fix things on my car, seeing that I used to (and still own) a 1988 Alfa 75 - I have to :P
another factor is the fact that here in the north of europe in Sweden, it is getting darker and darker everyday. And because of the snow, all the nice cars are taken off the road and out comes the s**t cars that we play in the snow with, while the "summer cars" are either being restored, modified or just plain hibernating during the winter. So these feelings are warming to my heart and now is the time of year when the crazy and insane ideas start flying through ones head. All are hypothetical, no point in getting bogged down with one idea since they change all the time and cost is an issue. So I thought I'd start this thread to ask questions and see what crazy ideas are in your minds...
my first question is:
*Why on earth is the GTV so heavy? When it comes to cars I'm not the guy that is all about "poweeeeeer" but I like to play with the idea of making it light, lighter (preferably lightest!) and having a great suspension...
according to the manual the car weighs over 1.400kg (V6), a pretty heavy car in my opinion for such a small car, so why is this? and where should one start to get it on a diet?
On my 75 for example I ripped out the whole interior and took away all the sound proofing so it was bare metal, took the speare wheel out and such, even started to look at lighter doors, bonnets and panels but then the cost was climbing rather rapidly, doesn't cost a penny to remove asphalt mats.
-How much do GTV seats weigh? would be nice to have a reference of how much weight is being saved when looking at sparco seats to see if the cost of the particular seat is justified.
-why are the doors in the car so extremely heavy? feels like there is a lot to be saved there? anyone thought of completley ditching the power windows? because i've got this idea (I've already said that they are all crazy and hypothtical!! :P) that it shouldn't be all that difficult (with a pinch of salt) to take out the whole setup and have a permanently standing plexi window. And seeing that it is frameless windows, shouldn't be too hard to design and build and easy "screw on screw off" system so that the window can just be unbolted on a warm day and but in the boot?
Like I said just throwing soem hypothetical ideas out there and would be great with feedback and to see what crazy ideas are in your heads!!!
Another thought is why didn't they make the GTV coupe a Targa roof, would have been perfect instead of a sunroof!
guess the ultimate idea would be to put the GTV body on a RWD chassi *drool*
