Cambelt change after only 8,000 miles

Ok, finally succumbed to the demons in my head (and on this here forum) telling me to change the cambelt because it has been on the twinnie for over 3 years now even though it had only done 8,000 miles since the last one. At least I can enjoy revving it now without that nagging doubt.

Got a full service at the same time with absolutely no advisories, in fact they went out of their way to say how it did n't look like it needed any work for the foreseable future. The Spider is now 8 years and 44k miles old, and the rear suspension is without a squeak thankfully.

A certain main dealer gave me an advisory on the suspension 3 years ago. Three MOTs and Indie inspections later - not a squeak.

Moral of the story, believe some things you are told, partcularly on things where inspection is not possible (e.g. cambelt)- but get a second opinion on others.

Peace of mind is worth a lot. I might have chanced it an extra year, though some mechanics will say if the car is sat idle for ages it puts strain the specific part of the belt most under stress and can accelerate the deterioration of it, and with just 8000 on the clock in three years it must have spent a fair few occasions doing nothing for weeks.

Enjoy it properly now!

Similar story to me. Well in on miles but at least six months overtime.

I now rev much easier !

the belt change has to be 36k or 36 months whichever comes first, peace of mind is always the way forward when it comes to cambelts.
