Just to post for reference really. I drove normally out of the petrol station a few weeks ago and the ABS
And Handbrake lights
came on together. As i drove on i realised the speedo wasnt working
either. Intermittently I could get in and the system seemed to reset itsself but then same problem again after a few miles.
I learned from here that the speedo works off the ABS sensors so that been the reason I had no speedo. Not getting anywhere connecting to the ABS ECU with the OBD wire i bit the bullet and took the car to a chap at Peak Alfa in Hope, Derbyshire (who was very helpful). His examiner machine failed to connect to the ABS ECU leaving us to guess it was the ABS ECU itsself that was playing up.
Obtained a new ABS pump (which has the ECU built in) from another chap who was breaking a v6 on here £40. Quite easy to fit, right at the top of the engine bay, lines off, lines on, bleed brakes off you go.
Problem Solved, Speedo back on, warning lights off!
I noticed a few people here had the same problem but noone seemed to be able to give an answer so I thought Id post my findings so when the next person comes across it they know what to do.
