2000 GTV 2.0 TS running hot
I've done many a search on this but am still not sure what's wrong, can anyone help?!
My 2.0 GTV has developed a tendency to run hot - it gets to 90C and then the fan kicks in. It then fluctuates around the 90-95C mark with the fan kicking in pretty much ALL the time. This happens when driving on normal urban roads, even in cold weather. In traffic it's even worse. This can't be normal, surely?
At 70 mph on the motorway the fan even kicks in sometimes as the temp goes above 90C - surely at these speeds it shouldn't need the fan??
Having the heater on helps a lot, and sometimes means the engine takes a long time to get up to temperature.
Now the rad looks A1, as though it has been replaced very recently - and it's not losing any water.
I've been thinking that either the thermostat is not opening fully, that the temp sender is wrong (where is it located?) or the head gasket may have gone.
I obviously hope it's not the latter.
I'm a recent convert to Alfas, love the car a great deal, and would appreciate any advice you guys may have.
