Juliett and i have just had our new baby fitted with a clifford 650 concept mkII alarm. Long story, but when we bought it, we were told it had an alarm only it didn't. Wrangled some money out of the dealer, added a little of our own and got this thing fitted today.
now here's the advice bit...
1. The fitter couldn't find the boot mechanism, so assumed it didn't have one. he's now quoted us £35 to fit it. should i say to him "you could have called to find out?" as it does say that the boot mechanism is part of the deal.
2. the clifford alarm LED is quite noticable on the dash, even more so with the incredibly unattractive collar around it that overlaps the original panel the old alarm LED was fitted snuggly into. Can i ask him to redo it in keeping with general up keep of the dash, rather than how it is, an aborted, stuck on, afterthought?
3. as it's a spider, the sensors had to be microwave. He told the other half they'd been fitted "....." the centre console(she doesn't quite remember what he said as it all was a bit hurried)..does this make sense? as we can't find them anywhere like i'm guseesing you would with ultrasonic ones.
4. the airbag light on the dash is now always on!!
there's a few other niggly bits, like we can't get the proximity sensor to work, but i'm hoping that we've not set it properly as fiddling with the locks and leaning on the car won't set it off. They've added the clifford immobiliser to the factory fitted immobiliser, so we've now got 2 immobilisers...does that seem normal ? (plus it's a bit of pain in the @rse to start and does seem to get a little confused, though that might be us, more than the alarm)
we paid a fair old whack to get this all sorted and i feel that for that kind of money i shouldn't even be asking any questions let alone minor ones, and i think some one or two of these are more than minor....
what do you guys think ?
I had a Clifford on a trans am a good few years back and the guys that fitted it done an impecable job. The alarm shouldn't go off if you bounce the wheel or fiddle with the locks.
The microwave sensor on mine was set to detect you moving inside the car when the tops were off. So if you leaned in through the gap it would trigger.
Another test you could do to test it is to get a coin and flick it against your window, you know, hold one side against the glass and fick it flat to the glass.
This should trigger the alarm as it should be set to detect the metal to glass contact.
I can't remember seeing the sensors but they may have been small ultrasonic look alikes if memory serves.
Best thing to do is take it to another clifford installer and get their opinion.
Was it a registered fitter that did the work?
Some folks don't like them but I only have praise for tha one I had and that was a long time ago.
Oh, and the airbag light might be because they had redonnected it whilst the ignition was on or moved the drivers seat as well..
