HELP! GTV drivers door handle is loose!

I have a 1996 2.0GTV and the interior door handle is very very loose and about to give up the ghost... I figure the cable has come adrift.

Has anyone experienced this problem and is there an easy solution that doesn't require the car going to a garage???

have you tried removing the interior door panel to see if the cable has come out of the guide that feeds into the handle?
Not exactly a 5min job but all you need is a posidrive screwdriver & allen key set to get the panel off to have a look . It might be something really simple!!

Ayjay I had the exact same thing on the Spider - after I removed the door card it transpired that the door lock cable (excactly like a bicycle brake cable) had frayed on the edge closer to the lock and had therfore stretched. I ordered a new cable from Alfa - cost me about 5!!

I took the door to pieces last night and the cable has frayed... but I can't see how on earth you get it out from the end where it goes into the door lock???? how did you do it???

Right, I have a new cable on order.. They are going to charge me 60ish to fit it... I'm sure I could do it myself but I am worries about undoing stuff I can't put back.

I've got as far as taking the door panel off but the cable is attached to the lock in a very difficult to reach place.... do you have to remove the lock???
