Got me a Spider, got me some qusetions. New gear knob too!
Swapped my GTV 1998 2.0 T-Spark (41K) for a Spider 2001 2.0 T-Spark (20K) this week. I'm really pleased with it as it's the biz in this weather to have a convertible.
Can anybody explain why there's a noticeable difference in speed? The Spider revs better and moves through the gears without stopping for breath in small amounts like the GTV did. It just seems better by a fair old margin. Have Alfa changed anything between the years?
I've also fitted the chrome/black Zender gear knob without a stroke of hassle. I was nervous prior to doing it but soon attacked it with relish. I found the best way was to stanley knife up the stiching first and peel the leather cover upwards and off. The middle wasn't the carbon stuff people were mentioning but more of a hard rubber. This was shaved off to reveal the white plastic cross-shaped cap which was sawn off with ease. If I can do it then anybody can so don't be scared to have a go yourself. The results can be found here.
