new fault!

Can anyone shine any light on this one. The car starts fine from cold and idles ok. When you press the accelerator the revs die to almost nothing and take a lot of coaxing to recover. When the car has warmed up this fault is virtually non existant. Following on, when you drive the car it accelerates fine for 3500 revs and then loses drive rapidly, its all you can do to get it up to 5000 rpm. Its the biggest flat spot in the world! The cars done 56K miles. The mechanic has already changed the plugs and the lambda sensor but suggests that it now sounds more like a fule problem, maybe the fuel filter or the pump! I've just dug back thru the history and the fuel filter should have been changed at 48K but looking at the receipt doesn't appear to have been. Has anyone had any similar problems and can anyone recommend a way ahead?

Judging from what you've posted, i defo
recommend getting the fuel pump looked at
and see what kind of pressure its kicking out
at varying revs.
I had a very similar problem on a hyundai i
had and that turned out to be the fuel pump.
