Advice Needed!!

Hi Guys,

Well I picked up my 97 Spider 2.0 Friday and i'm already so in love with it, its mad...

So, the only problem I have with it at the moment, is the central locking works from the key fob, but the alarm doesn't work. Can anyone recommend a good replacement alarm system?

Also, when I took it to an Alfa Specialist I was told that Alfa have recommended the Spider to have a cam belt change at 60k miles now. He said 5 years or 72k miles whichever came first, and that at 60k I should change.

Is this right? I'm not sure if he's just trying to get more money out of me. Its just had its normal 60k service (spark replacement)

Advice most appreciated

Congrats with the new car.

Have that belt replaced if it's more than 3 years old, regardless of miles. Mine's done 60.000 km and nearly 4 yrs olds, and I'm gettin increasingly nervous everytime I start the car. I just can't find the time to change the belts.

Dont know about the alarm. From my recollection of Alfa alarms, there should be a hidden switch/key somewhere used for engaging/disengaging the alarm unit. Maybe it's switched of ?

If you choose the aftermarket solution, go for a Meta or Cobra alarm. They have various models that uses the existing fob.

Hi Kafka

Like Hoygaard said, it's probably switched off. I have a '96 GTV and there is a small square plastic cover when you open the bonnet, on the left hand side panel, just above the colour bumper.......following me so far?? Take the cover off, and there should be a round key socket (they key should've come with the main bunch when you bought her) this is the service override switch, try turning it and testing the alarm.
Hope this helps.....let me know.

Hi Kafka, Alfa are now recommending belt changes at 36k.....get it done Suprised your garage didnt tell you that instead of the old 72k.

Don't know if its the same on '97 cars, but the alarm disable/enable switch is a keyhole under a plastic cover in the right front wing on my '01.

{edit:} D'oh! Didn't spot the earlier post to this effect...

Mine came from Germany via DTR and the Meta system was fitted by DTR before collection. Meta fob also controls central locking.
