Took her to the Alfa club Pretoriaís track day last Saturday which proved quite eventful.
Firstly she still isnít set up at all and still boosts below 0.4bar.
Was still waiting for my bumper.
I fitted the rear Koniís from my other GTV for the event.
Lots of other partly finished bits.
The day started brilliantly with my daughter and me driving the 30km to the track and the GTV behaving extremely well.
When I prepared for the first session the car would not start and we found that the injector drivers of the management system failed completely, strange that she ran perfectly until I parked.
Fortunately my Brother in-law could bring me the management system from his 156 2.5 Turbo whiche3 is being upgraded with a complete GTA front end including all mechanicals and body parts and obviously a turbo.
With the replacement ecu in place I went out with his map in it which was disastrous since it over fueled chronically.
After two laps I pulled into the pits and we dumped my partly set up map into the unit and the motor came alive, it seems like my ECU was on its way out for some time since the motor ran a lot better with the replacement ECU and my map.
With this done I could explore the abilityís of the 156 front suspension combined with the far superior GTV rear setup and I must say it works brilliantly.
Even with the shod tires the steering was superb as soon as the rubber got some heat into them.
I never really pushed the rpmís past 5000 since the motor has only done 1300km but the power delivery is superb and the 156 suspension coupled with the Q2 handles the power extremely well even through the hairpin.
The stock and old 156 2.5 brakes held up surprisingly well but I made a point of not over cooking them.
I did a couple of sessions with all the vital statistics of the motor staying perfect as expected with the large cooling system.
Unfortunately on the way back home disaster struck when I decided to let her run on a ďprivate piece of roadĒ and the bonnet decided to show us how light it is by breaking loose from the body close to 7500rpm in 4th gear.
It scathed the left side of the roof and dented the left rear fender before launching straight up into the air and dropping on my brothers 156ís roof resulting in a nasty scare.
All in all it was a nice day and I am happy that the mechanical part of the car is brilliant and all the suspension changes work brilliantly.
Now I have to do the following:
Get another bonnet.
Get the bumper.
Secure them properly.
Get the ECU repaired fortunately they do it at no charge.
Better fuel pump since I do not think the one currently in the car will supply enough fuel for 1.5bar boost.
Fit the GTV 3.0 brakes currently on my bench.
Double up the rear anti role bar.
A set of new semi slicks since I can not see the use of fitting normal tires since she will never do duty on a daily base.
Her tail becomes a bit light at high speed so I need a rear spoiler preferably a oe unit.
Proper bucket seats.
4 point harnesses.
Konis for the front
I think I will have to rob a bank.
