Brake Pad Warning Light

I've just taken my beloved GTV V6 in for its 4 year service and, as the the brake pad warning light has started to come on in the last week, mentioned that the fronts probably needed changing. I've had the car for 10 months and have had to change the rear pads already, but not the fronts.

Anyway, they checked the pads and said that they're fine. The brake fluid is all topped up as well, yet I'm still getting the light coming on when depressing the pedal... not every time, but maybe once in every two or three brakes.

Has anyone else experienced this? My concern is that I won't realise when the pads really are run down if the warning light is coming on regardless... I'm technically incompetent when it comes to cars, so I tend to rely on the warning lights/wear indicator to inform me of these things...! I don't mean to doubt the guys who checked them as they're Alfa specialists that, from my experience, I trust my car with above the official dealer - and anyway I've never to date been to a workshop that would turn down work if it needed doing! wink Yet they're as stumped as I am as to why the light is coming on...

Any comments would be much appreciated...

I'm sure if the front pads needed changed then the garage would more than happy to take your money.

The warning light is triggered when the metal wire in the pad touches the metal of the brake disc. It uses the disc as the earth for the warning light circuit.

It could be that moisture has gotten into one of the connectors or the wire is slightly damaged and is rubbing on part of the car and so connecting to earth. However, I would have thought the garage would have checked this but its worth having a look yourself.

Sounds like the cable for the warning light i's being scrubbed by the discs.

I'd change the pads anyway. better to know when they're goind down... than ignoring that light and guessing
