Has anyone got any words of wisdom for someone thinking of buying a spider? anything to look out for in particular?
I have previously owned a GTV V6 and so far I have been shocked at the condition of the 12-15,000 mile cars I have been looking at. Do the spiders suffer from more build quality issues than the GTV? or have I just been unlucky and seen poorly maintained cars...

I think you`ve been unlucky.I went to a meeting recently with the guys on www.gtvv6.com
and I`d say that the Spider is no worse than the GTV,although you have the added complexity of the roof to allow for.Basically check all the things you would on a GTV,especially the rear suspension bushes.
However check the hood very carefully and make sure you raise and lower it because they do need to be kept well adjusted to avoid problems.
Roof should be fairly tight to clip down on the front rail if you are to avoid leaks.Check that it is taut.
Other than that I`ve had no more problems than friends running GTVs.
Its true that its a little less sharp, but the roof down moments more than compensate.
