As I said b4 I'd like to see it IRL b4 conveying judgement, however, seen from the fact that the restyling was carried out by the people who designed it in the first place, I guess it can't be a bad thing!! This is what they have to say:
Pininfarina presents the new Alfa Romeo Spider on its stand at the 73rd Geneva International Motor Show. The car designed and built by Pininfarina in its Grugliasco and San Giorgio plants, just like the new Alfa Romeo GTV, features revamped styling, new outfits and new engines.
The new Alfa Spider and GTV will be on the market in May, with a number of interesting innovations regarding the engines. They will be equipped with two engines that are proving an enormous success on other Alfa Romeo models: the revolutionary 2.0 JTS direct injection petrol engine (165 bhp), and the brilliant 24-valve 3.2 V6 engine (240 bhp) which is exciting to drive when you can put your foot down, but also for everyday use. Fitting this engine, the GTV has a top speed of 255 km/h, a performance that makes it the fastest road car in Alfa Romeo history. The two new engines join the existing 2.0 Twin Spark unit (150 bhp).
The new Alfa Spider and GTV both have a new nose, which reflects current Alfa Romeo styling trends: the shield is similar to the one used on recent models in order to maintain the family feeling, and its upper edge continues the line of the bonnet before sloping strongly downwards to break the line of the bumpers.
The logo is high up at the centre, framed by a light chrome surround. Low down, the two air inlets are separate and with the shield, they form the historical Alfa “cloverleaf” motif. The design of the alloy wheels is new and there is a choice of three new colours for the bodywork: Brunello Red, Cobalt Blue and Racing Green. Inside, there have been changes to the seats and door panels, the surround of the central console, the instrumentation lighting, the radio and the satellite navigation system.
The Alfa Romeo Spider and GTV are agile and powerful, conveying an immediate impression of elegance and sportiness. To date (end of February 2003), over 76,000 have been built and sold on the European market.
