Balancer Shaft Belt Stripped
Would just like to share a problem I had with my 2.0 T.Spark GTV (1999). The engine had done 59000 miles.
When accelerating, engine speed reaching about 5,500 RPM (or more), (in any gear) there was a very harsh vibration coming from the engine. This could be felt as well as heard.
Took it to a garage and it turned out to be the balancer shaft belt. The threading on two sections of the belt was almost completely stripped (about 10 inches of wear on each section). This caused the balancer shaft to slip and cause the vibration. All wheels and tensioners were checked and they seemed to be spinning freely. Since I had the work done I also had the cam belt (plus other belts) changed.
Has anyone else had a similar experience with a 2.0 T.Spark? What could have caused such wear on the belt - any ideas?
