The first guy firstname.lastname@example.org posted this:
I am trying to remove the tranny from my 78 spider, but am having no luck. I have removed everything, gear lever, all bolts, clutch
slave, separated driveshafts and lowered the driveshaft and support. It seems difficult to get the tranny to lower enough because the engine doesnt want to let go of the tranny. I have the
bellhousing just clear of the flywheel ring gear, but it seems to be stuck now. I am not hanging up on the body at all, have enough clearance it seems, yet i still cant get the darn thing out.
Second guy Brian (email hidden) came back with:
Try jacking up the front of the motor, to get the tranny to tilt downwards a little bit. an inch or so of lift should help a lot, you might have to remove the fan shroud to do it.
Third guy Randy (!) email@example.com added:
Also you may want to double check to be sure you have all the bolts out. Might also leave exhaust header and first section of tail pipe on. These can be used as leverage to put an incline on the motor.
