Could be front wheel bearings on the way out?
Hold the front tyre and pull it backwards and forwards. It shouldn't move at all. If your bearings are dicky, you will feel a slight wobble. It's not a big job to sort, but it is an MOT failure.
Sometimes you can get a pebble stuck in the brakes/calipers/heat shield and this causes a grinding sound. Jack the front up and take the wheel off and have a good rummage about. Make sure you chock the back wheels. Put the car in neutral, and you should be able to turn the hub by hand. The brake disk will turn with the hub, and see if you can see/hear/feel anything a miss.
Failing that, you do have some air in your tyres don't you??
