I dropped my girlfriends car off to Autolusso just over 2 weeks ago to get the clutch and flywheel changed.
When I dropped the car off it was running perfectly, the engine was silky smooth and running like a dream. The only thing wrong with the car was the clutch which was in a pretty bad way.
Yesterday I picked the car up and ran the car very gently towards home until the car had fully warmed up whereby I stuck my foot down a little only to be met by servere hesitation and very underwhelming performance. Oddly, the only way to get the car upto speed was to hold it at half throttle whereby it would cough and splutter it's way to 4000rpm and then take off like a scalded Cat.
I rang Autolusso and as expected they wanted the car back in the workshop as soon as possible to try and get to the bottom of this fault.
I got back there at around 2:30pm and waited for around an hour and a half whilst Ned finished a few jobs off. No problem for me really as I am still feeling pretty jet lagged and I managed to catch up on 30 minutes of shut eye.
Anyway, first port of call was the MAF. Ned took the car out and agreed that it was running extremely badly so he then unplugged the MAF and we continued on our journey and the car ran much better but still sounded rough on tick over. A new throttle body was also stuck on the car and that didn't make a huge amount of difference either.
Ned and another mechanic checked all around the parts that would be removed or would have been disturbed whilst the clutch was being changed but they couldn't find anything.
Has anybody had any similar problems like this?
It's worth pointing out that I started the car this morning (it was a cold morning) and the car was smooth, didn't sound rough and didn't sound anywhere nearly as loud as it did on idle yesterday (...how on earth poor fuelling can make a car sound so loud is beyond me!).
Due to what happened this morning, perhaps the rough running is just a coincidence and was not caused by the clutch change but instead a temperature sensor has failed?
Just to add, this is not a knock on Auto Lusso. They have behaved in a very professional manner and I'm extremely happy with what I have seen from them and I will be using them again in the future. I'm only posting this because I'm concerned about the car, as I'm sure you all appreciate.
