Buying a Spider [Poll]

I am interested in buying a spider. New or used. Not yet decided.

Can anyone answer the following?

1) How bad is the 'shake' really? Should it put me off buying one?

2) I prefer a manual hood - less problems. Is it easy to Open/Close.

Opinions would be appreciated.

Hey Gordon,

The best way to find out is to drive one mate I guess... Listen the auto dealer in Haz-Zebbug (infront of the place that sells alloy wheels has one I think) and so does Autobhan! Well good luck in your search and join the Malta Alfa Club!!!!

the shake is really a myth.. honestly you can completely throw the thing around at silly speeds with no probs and no lack of faith in the car..

the hood, manual about 20sec

The scuttle shake I don`t find to be a problem.I have driven other convertibles, or been a passenger in BMW 3 series convertible,TVR S and MGF,etc.I don`t think that the Spider is any worse. If you are used to the serenity and refinement of a closed car you may notice it.
Our car has an auto roof, which is great and takes about 20 secs to raise or lower. In fact it is so easy, you tend to lower it at any opportunity. No experience of the manual roof, but the procedure is covered in John Tipplers Alfa Spider book,(which I reccomend you read) and seems relatively straightforward. Its a pretty good hood too, apart from the rear plastic screen is prone to scratching if not handled and cleaned with care.Don`t buy a used one unless you are certain of its history.Whilst relatively reliable ,they need to be well pampered regularly!
Let me know if you want any more advice.

Regards Pete

Hey Gordon,

Below you will find the details for the club here in Malta:

Qrejten Street - Msida

The name of the house is not a joke... Found it quite cool... Well good luck and if you get the spider i'll see you at the meetings... Listen you might want to speak to John Tabone at UCIM in Msida (the alfa agent) he might be able to fix you up with a test drive of the spider... Well good luck mate and keep in touch....
