Hey Guys - congrats on such a great forum. Really enjoying my new alfa experience - BUT one little hitch:
Wipers on '97 Spider sometimes jam half way up the windscreen when on intermittent. Once you switch to either slow or fast speeds, they work fine. Don't think it's an electrical problem, probably something to do with wiper settings - any bright ideas?? Cheers.
My old 33 P4 did exactly the same when I disturbed a big electrical connector block near the brake servo - so it probably IS electrical.
The wiper arms wouldn't quite make it back to rest. I knew what bit of wiring I'd had apart so I cleaned it all up, tightened up the female connectors and squirted some WD40 in there and that fixed it.
I'd look around the relay - it's like the motor isn't soaking up enough current to give you the whole sweep.
My 98 GTV has the same problem .. Been told by a local dealer that its the motor that is shagged .. but I don't believe them .. as they also told me my bushes were ok .. when they were very very dead !!
Still have not figured this one out yet .. when I do I'll let you know
I too once had this problem and it just went away! I dont know why. All I do know is Ive had plenty of little probs with my gtv that just came and went. The wipers were so bad at one stage, I went to a dealer to get it booked in. Then it stopped? Maybe it was afraid to be touched by a main dealer!
The wiper motor includes a relay and the park mechanism and is usually replaced with the linkage to eliminate the wear that builds up in the linkage causing knocks etc. This fault was the subject of a service news which was released to dealers about four years ago. So once again, trust the dealer!
