OK, so the windows on my GTV screech a lot when going down or up. I mentioned this to 1 garage & they said they'd 'realign' them. Didn't make a lot of difference.
Anyone else have this problem & anyone know what's up / how to fix it? ...
(new tyres Fri - Goodyear F1 - & rear disks & pads. goodee!)
BruceJ, I've got this problem too but havent been able to rectify it. Even took the whole door apart but couldnt find anything to sort it. Good ol alfa panel fit!
Doesnt happen on the passenger side
Hows do you find the car with the new rear pads and discs?
TOOK THE DOOR APART?! ARE YOU MENTAL!! That would scare the **** out of me! I have always been taking things apart - it's the putting back together that I have trouble with....
Sigh, so the screechy windows might be there for the duration. Shame...
I will report back once I have the new tyres etc. The rear pads are stuffed (so much so that they have trashed the disks) so my brakes are a bit feeble at the moment. So I should certainly notice the difference...
Actually I took the whole dash of my old 33 in anger once to sort a rattle that was doing my nut in. Sorted it too but I think I created a few new ones.
Just think of your car as a great big airfix and just like an airfix, it was never put together right. Speaking of which, I saw a few pics of a 156 gta on display. One of the pics was a front closeup and guess what???
The bonnet didntline up right on one side. I mean for F&*K sake, sort it out AR!!!
I'll get the picture. Can someone post it for me if I get it?
Regarding screeching windows the passenger window on my new GTV did this until I used a spray rubber lube (from Halfords - yellow can) on the runners and on the interior and exterior sealing strips. The windows smear for a while but if removed sufficient lube remains to do just that, but without further smears. By the way just where is the pollen filter exactly? I cannot find a rference to it anywhere!
BruceJ, just spray inside the rubber strips that sit on the door frame, from where the window comes up. The inside of these strips are coated in nylon. I just sprayed on the lube spray and it worked immediately. It smears the windows for a bit but just wipe it clean.
Imagine an Italian shrugging. You know, the kind of shrug when he says "I donno whaddya mean" then sort of sticks his bottom lip out in an upside down smile. This is how an aquaintance of mine described the look on an Alfa workers face when questioned about the panel fit. In Italy, they don't care about panel fit. If it looks ok, and more importantly, it goes, then 'no problemo'. Apparently, you only pay for the engine. The bodywork comes for free and keeps rain off the engine.
New tyres (Goodyear F1) still bedding in. At the moment, the backend seems to be drifting a bit when I power round a tightish bend ... Maybe (probably) I'm just pushing it harder than when I got the car a year ago, but it seemed to track much more precisely then. Give them a bit more time to settle in...
THE FRIGGIN SQUEAKS ARE BACK!!!!!
Damn lube spray isnt working. I'll have to put more on. I wouldnt mind putting a set of f1's on brucej, but Im about to buy new alloys and they will be pricey. Im sticking to the avons for now. Good tyres though, the best Ive had yet.
These are the alloys Im getting. They are keeping in styling with the standard ones I have but they're 17" http://www.starmotors.net/alessio/modena.htm
Hmm - didn't take long for the screeches to return! Ah well, I'll give it a go and see how the silence lasts.
Nice alloys & can't argue with going to 17", but I still prefer the look of the Alfa 5 hole alloys - beautifully blobby. When I first bought the car, my neighbour couldn't believe it came with such nice alloys!
Like everything in life ,the risk increases in direct proportion to the fun factor! As the Nike advert goes "Just do it!"
Anyway whats been going on while I`ve been away? Wheres Robbie and the Pain? Have you got those damn fine 17" wheels yet?
Cheers Pete
Think they got bored quickly and fell away. Happier on Evo I suppose. Dont talk to me about the alloys, Im such an ol granny, Im ready to buy the alessio but just havent cause its crap weather and the car hasnt been doing much. And you know what?? The place that has them is very far and Id have to get them delivered but what if I dont like them in the flesh? Im tired of all this.
Wheres Kings Lynn?
