Spider rescue??

This happened my Spider 3 weeks ago........

I have an opportunity to buy back the Spider for very little. Now it is fixable I've been told, but the price of new parts and labour have made it an uneconomical write off.

So, would I be completly mad to buy it back myself, and strip the front end down, get it properly straightened in the panel beaters, and then rebuild it myself using parts from a donor GTV??

it needs two new front chassis legs straightened and the window pillar is strained

Like the title says, I need some sence talked into me, would I be wasting my time, I do realise that its a car that if fixed, I would never be able to sell

Re: Spider rescue??

I didn't have a clue that GRP panels were used. Doubtful whether it's anyting other than a write off? Spares source maybe. Darn bad luck though mate.:

Re: Spider rescue??

As you suggest, write-off means it is uneconomic to repair at commercial rates - ie. with garage labour charges. It's not a total loss, which means it is not repairable. If you have the means and ability to strip and repair it yourself, it's maybe not such a mad alternative - or isn't that what you wanted to hear

you read me like a book!

basically, I have putting together a plan, I have 2 fiat coupe 20VT cars, one in showroom condition, one for parts. I reckon I can source a engine less GTV fairly easily.

so, would a 20VT Spider be out of the question? they are basically the same car underneath

que a flaming from the purists........
