To Flush or Not To Flush

I have a GTV 2.0 TS X Reg. I am about to change the oil and considering if I should do an engine flush, before I put in some fully synthetic.

1. Is flushing recommended?

2. Will it contaminate the new oil?

3. Which Flush brand should I use?

4. Does anybody recomend a fully synthetic oil?

Re: To Flush or Not To Flush

Never bothered flushing since I did that old Jag back in the sixties. Car engines that is. Loosened the muck sure enough, so the shells spun and rattled. :

Did it once, suppose cant do any harm but dunno if it really does it a whole lot of good too so doubt it's worth the extra time and hassle. Didnt find any difference, oil is generally black enough from the JTS anyways.

Re: To Flush or Not To Flush

the only reason a car will need a flush is if the oil hasnt been changed regular enough and is all sludged up with gunk, if it has been looked after and had regular oil changes it wont need it

i have done it on many occasions after buying a second hand car that had been mistreated by a previous owner and never had any problems,
but some people have had problems, it can dislodge large ammounts of muck and clog the oil pickup and starve the head of oil and kill the engine

i would reccomend it if the engine is filthy inside BUT you should take the sump off and clean out all the sludge after draining the oil and flush

as an alternative you can use diesel engine oil to slowly and gently flush the engine as it has more detergents in compared to petrol engine oil (1000 miles of use should do it)

the best way to do it if it needs it is to strip and rebuild the engine (not as cheap as a flush though)

the risk is yours to take

Re: To Flush or Not To Flush

previous poster has got here before me, lol, although i was told to use really cheap oil

drain old oil, pure in new cheap oil, run it in as cheap oil sticks better and pulls all the gunk off the engine, then drain that out, change filter, then pure in your expensive oil
