Reversve gear in a 2.0 TS spider

Sometimes when i select reverse in my spider it doesnt go into gear, so when i put my foot on the accelerator the revs just rise and i dont move as its not in gear supposedly so as the revs fall and i try and put it back into reverse it grinds. Is something wrong with it?

Mine does it as well. Double de clutching helps.

Nothing wrong, it just does n't engage fully sometimes, usually when cold for me. Wait until revs have dropped back to idle before trying again to avoid grinding. When one of your forward gears does n't engage or grinds/crunches, then you have a problem.

This is pretty much normal especially when the gearbox is cold. As Spider said a double de clutch sorts it.

I have too some grinding noise or no slection of reverse gear.
But it happened all the time even when the car is perfectly warm.

I did found a way around by going into 3 rd gear then reverse, when I do this it s smooth and easy.

When cold I do have a bot of problem with the first gear.
Is there a fix? Is there something that need to tighten or change?

A gearbox oil change worked wonders for me.. My gearbox was noisey with notchy/ stiff gear selection.. difficulty in engaging reverse etc..

Gearbox oil changes get ignored for some reason .. but gear oil does not last forever.. if the oil is old and thin the synchro rings won't work properly.

I used Castrol 75 90 fully synthetic. it takes two litres..

This is nothing unusual, quite common on many cars, not just Alfas, especially when cold, or very hot.
As Seadart says, an oil change on the gearbox helps a lot. Often gets ignored with the result that the level may be low and the oil well past its best. Usually takes longer to get the panels off than to do the job.
Also a good bleed of the clutch hydraulics an/or replacing the slave cylinder should make your gearbox much happier.
Neither are tricky or expensive to do. Do a search on this forum for details.

There isnt a recommended interval! Mine was pretty rank after 70,000 miles and 14years! Needs a little less than 2L. Theres a thread somewhere with lots of info and pics, etc.

It didnt fix the occasional crunch into reverse though

Gearboxes are the one part of a car that are like wizardry to me... No idea wtf is going on even when I take one apart and "understand" what is going on... In my last car, after my sister drove it the box would "complain" at me and be all crunchy when I got back in... Weirdness. Frickin weird.
