Re: Oil Cooler pipe kaboom
The pipes include the solid metal piece and connect right at the back of the engine block, up above the oil filter, behind the exhaust manifold. Access to these is non-existent!
To do it properly you really need to change the whole pipe, I toyed with trying to cut these and join onto them but decided against it... though with the right fittings I think it would be an option.
I actually I started doing the job myself, but working under the car on axle stands you just cant get to the banjo bolts to undo the pipes. The first is easy, the second.... I gave up after about 8 hours trying!
Give it a go if you like, but if you can find a pit etc. it would really really help. You'll also need to bend and generally basta****ize a couple of spanners to get them in there, probably quicker to remove the in manifold cat actually to give you better access (the garage actually did this on mine).
If you go to a garage my only reccommendation is make sure they know what they are doing and have done it before. A general spanner monkey will give it a go but they will have no idea what a pain it is until they start, which could mean your quote doubles or tripples in price! I wouldn't bother with a main dealer either, but there are plenty of reputable specilialists on here who would do a good job!
