V6 alternators - any good?
I think I may have a knackered alternator, or its the alfa gremlin?
My car always starts first time every time, but if I have been sat, or in slow moving traffic for about an hour she dies. This only happens when the engine fan has been on and off for ages. The car starts up fine again, and if I keep the revs up at 3k it will stay running but won't idle, so I let her cool down to the point that the engine fan is not needed and everything is fine. I know engine fans are 30-50amps which is a lot, and the ecu's are strickly 12v hungry so I suspect my alternator cannot provide the beans when everything is running for a prolonged period (engine fans, lights, heater, stereo).
My fluke (avo) is dead so will get pick one up from hellfrauds and measure voltage when everything is on.
What should my alternator provide at idle, and at cruising revs (3-4k) ?
