Can you swap CF1 2.0 TS engine with CF2 or CF3?

My '97 spider broke down in belgium last friday. I was towed to an alfa romeo garage where was told that my crank shaft broke :-(
I had to leave the car there and fly back to UK.
I realize that the repair would be very costly as it could be even more damage to the engine and I decided to buy new (used) engine.
I came across some on ebay but they are CF2 or CF3 versions and my old one is the CF1 one.

Is it possible to swap CF1 with a later one (CF2 or CF3)?

I am pretty sure all of the engines are mechanically identical.

You may need to swap ancillaries to get it to work such as the inlet manifold, throttle body, and cam covers depending on which version it is.

There are a few internal differences, but you can still swap the core engine over.

Often people want to (such as me) put an earlier engine in a later model, you have got a later engine to put in an earlier car never the less from my experience its a straightforward task. Be open minded about the number of items you have to change on the "new" engine from your old engine, from sensors with different connectors to the inlet manifold assembly and even exhaust and front water pipes. Ive done it around a dozen times in the last two years but im no expert. All of my changes worked out ok and the cars passed through emmision tests ok.
