Darling will offer £2,000 reward to scrap old cars - Times Online
Well, it looks like the chancellor may well be announcing a £2K scraping incentive in the next budget.
There are a number of arguments around this issue:
- most pollution occurs during manufacture / recycling,
- most cars are manufactured outside the UK, so the UK manufacturers only feel part of the financial benefit,
- cheap cars will become more "valuable" reducing the stock of cars available at the low end of the market,
- people in a £2K car cannot afford to upgrade anyway,
I wonder how many GTVs will end up being consumed by this deal
? Quite a few must be worth around the £2k or lower mark.
To be honest, I may well consider the scheme myself. Despite me having fixed all the little niggles in the car, and it running very well, I don't want to miss out on the opportunity for some "free" money ( I can get a friends and family discount as well). My weekly commute is 250-300 miles which in a 3.0 V6 isn't cheap.
I feel bad even thinking about it...
