Anyone fancy swapping a gtv for a spider?
I've two choices, swap the spider for a GTV or drive the summer with the roof up!.....all down to bl**£? hayfever. By now I thought (with taking the tablets as well) I'd be able to drive with the top down but everytime I try I end up with chronic hayfever for the next 24hours.
I want to keep all the dynamics of the spider but it seems sensible to move to a tin top.
So, it's an R reg phase 1 (18/08/97) Proeto Red 2.0l Twin Spark with 90k on the clock and I'm the 4th owner. It has black leather (Alfa logo'd interior) with air con - lusso, I think. The roof is manual and in excellent condition (as is the window). The original radio/Casette is there and there's a CD multichanger in the Battery area.
I bought the car off EBAY last September and have covered over 10,000 mainly motorway miles since - with the top down at every opportunity - no hayfever in the winter!
Now I'm going to make it sound awful, but it's much better than this..but this is as honest as I can get:
Body wise the car is good - there is the usual trolley rash on both doors (why didn't Alfa fit rubbing strips!) and a small ding behind the lower rear passenger door plus a couple of dings in the boot lid.
There's no history with the car other than the previous sales invoice (stating when the belts were changed) and the previous couple of MOT's. Strangely it has a full set of Alfa owners manuals intact.
The belts were changed about 12000 miles ago when it had a full service by the supplying dealer to the last owner (the young lady I bought the car from - she paid £3900 for it in June 2007).
I've recently changed the oil /filter and front drop links, plus replaced the thermostat. I'll be changing rear droplinks and front wishbones tomorrow (assuming my hayfever improves) I've replced the main aircon hose to the compressor and had the system regassed.
MOT is due 28th May but I'd be happy to put her through the test - if you'll do the same - Tax is till the end of May.
She's been totally reliable and averages 450 miles between fill ups (std unleaded). Oil consumption is very, very low (much less than my previous 155's). Temp gauge sits at 75 on the move and rises to 90 in the worst M25 stationary traffic.
Everything works as it should. There are no knoocks/bangs/rattles that you wouldn't expect from a 916 spider.....and the roof always works as it's manual!
I'm looking for a GTV in similar condition.....If you are interested please pm me and I'll send photo's as required. Also, happy to arrange viewings as required.
If I wanted it to work, I'd buy a VW
