Re: Temperamental little bugger!!
OK, here's an update on the car repair having just got it back from the garage;
The HT Leads were replaced, as was the rotor arm and fuel filter. Having picked the car up, the drive was sweet! All previous symptoms disappeared, but as the garage tells me that the rotor arm was knackered, and the HT Leads were shot, I can't tell you whether it was the leads or the rotor arm that was the cause of the hesitancy, but my advice would be to replace the rotor arm first (and inspect the distributor cap) as it is the cheapest and easiest option.
Incidentally, my excessive oil usage may also have contributed to the problem, as the mechanic told me that the plugs were oily. That presents another, different problem though, because (a) I presume that the excessive oil usage will probably cause the plugs to oil up again, but I am going to try some Ametech Engine Restorer, to see if the valves/piston bores can be 're-lined' to prevent undue excessive oil leaking past to the plugs......
