As El Toro writes, no variator solenoid on the TB.
Possible causes to blue smoke and excessive oil use:
- Cracked or worn valve stems seals, usually shows as blue smoke in
5-20 min. after the car have bin started when it have stand still
for somthing like over nigth, car can also smoke after engine braking
when you starts to throttle again, and the car have often a high oil
As it is a pretty big job to fix it may be worth to test an oil additive
like Wynn’s engine stop leak or similar, that claims to revitalises the
rubber and neoprene seals, sometimes it helps, other times it does
- Leaking turbo seals/worn out turbo bearings have mostly the same
symptoms as with leaking valve stems seals.
You have to remove the "big" hose that goes to the "center" of the
turbo and check for axial play by slightly puhs and pull the impeller,
there shoulden't be any play or just a very little one.
Also check radial play by puhsing the impeller up and down, a little
play is OK but have a close look on the impeller for any signs of
contact with turbo housing, and also if it is very dirty/oily inside the
housing, if so the seals are probably gone.
If there are any play in the turbo it's time for renovation of it.
Also (and this is important as the car is pretty old) check the oil
return pipe/hose in between turbo and oil sump so it is not clogged
or obstructed in any way so that you get an oil pressure build up
in the turbo making it to leak oil.
- Worn piston rings/cylinder bore, smokes more or less all the time
often more excessive when you are throttling.
A thicker oil may help a bit.
- Clogged crankcase breather piping/hose, gives often the same
symtoms as worn piston rings/cylinder bore and are harmfull for the
engin seals, but you have checked that pipe or didn't you ?
Only to be sure, the 2L of oil you did top up with, you did not use everything at once ? (min -> max = 1L) or it may bee a possible causes to the blue smoke.
A thicker oil (10W-60) may help a bit on the oil consumption and maybe littel on the blue smoke to.
Hope it is something useful in this, that can help you to pinpoint
