Broken Throttle Potentiometer Again !!!!
Right here we go, I shall start this post by mentioning that fact that in the last 20 months, including the £5000 i paid for the car this car has now cost me in excess of £12,000 !!! yes you read that right £12,000. I can not even begin to list the amount of things i have had to have replaced but the most recent was a new engine !!! from those awesome lads at Autolusso this was around christmas time and I actually thought I was going to have a problem free car and indeed I have since the end of Dec when I got my car back from Autolusso with a great new engine.
Oh I must stop myself there and also add that as I write this I have a can of petrol out the back ready to go and pour into my car and set light to it, thus is my utter anger and disgust at this F'ing money pit.
I shall continue, my current problem would not be such a kick in the balls if about 18 months ago, just after I bought the car and before I had found this forum, I had not had the exact same problem i have been facing this week, which AutoDelta charged me £750 !!!!! to fix, basically a new throttle potentiometer which I since discover through this forum i would not have needed but some simple soldering would have sufficed.
Again I stop myself and say to those of you reading this thinking how broken this story is, I am currently sooooo ANGRY that i am honestly on the verge of torching the car, and my train of thought is somewhat all over the place.
So to continue, about a week ago i was meryly driving along and all of a sudden the engine management light came on, and i lost power in low revs, hmmmmm im thinking i have been here before, this feels like the throttle potentiometer, BUT WAIT surely it can not be i paid autodelta a small fortune to fit a new 1 !!! i restarted the car a few times drove off and the light went away, phew, i thought, just a gremlin !!!!!!!!!! oh no !!!!! do not be silly this is an Alfa Romeo. SO there i am a few days later when bugger me if the same thing doesn't happen again, engine off, restart light goes away.
THEN and this you will love, last Sat night at about midnight at a friends house a good 50 miles from where i live, suddenly my throttle pedal went loose and i had a good 2 inches of play before any resistence in the pedal ( but no engine management light ) so i gently drove around the block when i should feel something drop onto my right foot !!!! my god i thought the car is falling apart so i stop have a look in the footwell and find a nut !!!!, hmm i thought this cant be right, luckily i was outside my friends house and he had a torch. So i got in my car upside down and what should i see, the throttle potentiometer hanging off only just attatched by the nut and bolt on the other side which was also just about to fall off. SO there i was for a good hour and half upside down in the footwell with 1 hand trying to put the escaped nut back on the bolt, i eventually managed this and tightend up both sides with my 1 hand.
Now a point worth mentioning here is that all this time the engine management light did not come on, i then drove 50 miles home no light, i then drove over 2-300 miles to work and back this week, no light great driving thinking hah i solved it without it costing me another £1000 which has been the average amount i have needed to spen on any problem this utter piece of **** car has given me.
So this morning i get in my car and reverse it out of the garage, light comes on !!!! hmm i think pedal feels ok, nuts and bolts are still on what could the problem be you guessed it >>> throttle potentiometer !!!!
No power in low revs, now then to the point of the longest thred i have ever written on the internet on any subject. I have advised people numerous times on this forum to solder there throttle potentiometer to fix the problem but has anyone actually ever done it ??? if so please please please tell me how and if it has worked,
This car has cost me, 2 loans, 2 maxed credit cards, all my life savings, nearly my finace, and i have just moved house which means i do not have a pot a to **** in.
Please Please Please help !!! oh and if you actually read all of this
THANKS for listening !!!
I am now going to contemplate pouring the petrol into my car and setting light to it.
