GTV Q2 Cup 110

Re: laquer peeling on rosa red GTV CUPS

Mine had the exact same issue when I got it, red/purple fade on the plastics. I got the bumpers, skirts mirror and spoilers resprayed last year which made it look 95% better but it will eventually need a full respray as the roof and the top of the doors are slightly fading as well. It's not enough to warrant a full respray yet but if I keep the car long enough I might.... I think it's all down to UV protection (or lack of).
Spoke too soon. The ice and snow has pulled large thin strips of laquer off the roof and boot lid so that's that. Not sure whether I want to spend out right now, will think about it. This car is too fragile!

Re: laquer peeling on rosa red GTV CUPS

funny you should say this because this car was covered in snow when I went to pick it up. And when I examined these bad patches on the roof there was little bits of the paint still there like it had just come off. it was prolly the extereme weather thats done it.

(thanks for the paint recomendation for the other guy I will check it out for sure)

Yes, red is the worst colour for these problems, apparently it's due to the type of pigments that red colours must have and these affect the chemical characteristics.

There was a Thread about this last year and ifirc it was Zulu Ferret who came up with a definitive answer, a search may reveal all.

Not that it's of any help of course, red does fade and peel and it seems that there is nothing much to do about it except to repair the damage and then try and protect it as much as you can. Mind you all the red pre 90's Alfas I have owned, and there have been a few, never suffered from this, rust yes, paint fade, no. Perhaps more Elf and Safety legislation from Europe made Alfa change the paint type ?

Have you seen the Lincolnshire Lounge ? Don't stay off the radar, come on in and have a look !

Re: laquer peeling on rosa red GTV CUPS

My 99 is peeling like crazy. I've tried to chip off the extra bits and give it a good wax, but it seems like water (dew etc) gets underneath it still and then freezes overnight and lifts it further. Real pain. I only paid £1600 for my V6 so don't really want to fork out that again for new paint, especially when it runs great and is only a weekend car. Shame there's not an easy fix to at least cover it up a little.
