Re: GSR Air-Flow Induction Hose
Pheeewwwww.... what a thread! I feel your pain BD but I have to say that video made me chuckle a little... I bumped into Peter at Red Dot briefly a few months back and left him ranting away to someone in the corner... sounded like a lot of BS to me hence I couldn't help but chuckle at the sight of that pipe collapsing!
In terms of it's performance, or at least the overall performance of the induction as a whole, all the way to the filter... if it's collapsing the pipe the setup is poor. An induction setup should provide basically zero restriction to air flowing into the engine, the collapsing of the pipe means there is an absence of air flow which either means the pipes routing is poor... or more likely... the filter on the end of it isn't up to the job. That's just my opinion.
What I would suggest to all though is don't waste your money on induction kits. The standard routing in my opinion is fine and the quality of the parts are OK. You're very unlikely to see any worthwhile performance increase over the std setup with a brand new clean filter.
The advantages to such kits are (a) sound... they they tend to show off or even enhance induction noise, which may not actually be a good thing as air only tends to make a noise when it is suffering turbulence but thats another debate (b) the fact you can clean after market filters and hence keep performance tip top.
I would be stunned if any induction kit gave more than 5 BHP absolute max over the manufacturer setup on most modern cars where a brand new air filter had been fitted. In fact, I wouldn't be at all supprised if many kits actually reduced power.
I have a BMC kit on mine fitted from a previous owner. I have to be honest I love the sound it makes... but it was not performance revelation on the Red Dot rollers...
On your to supercharge or not to supercharge question... now that's going to see you with some serious performance... but woahhh is it a lotta money if you plan to shift the car on so soon. I would think there'd be someone out there who would pay £9k for your Cup with a SC... but you could probably get £7.5k as it is so the maths will never work... but you'll have some fun before it goes!
