I just opened my bonnet and noticed after pulling the release in the car that when I opened the bonnet there was no need to use the under bonnet release catch. Feels soft with no spring back. Anyone had this?
Is it time for a new catch or can they be fixed?
Alfa had a recall on 156's a few years ago for a sticky bonnet secondary release,it is probably the same on the GTV,i have seen a couple that have done it,if it is just stuck in the open position, free it first with a bit of penetrating oil and then use some spray silicone grease.
Fix or repair but I suggest you do it asap.
Apparently mine was like this when I got it - then the actual bonnet mechanism failed on the motorway too. Result - bonnet flew up at between 70 - 80mph. Bonnet ripped off and big mess.
I've known of GTV's being written off by the bonnet flipping up and denting the roof in a big way, so as others have said try and see to it quickly and maybe avoid fast runs if possible.
Thats what happened to mine - escaped being written off though. Roof was bent in like a dish
Had to have new roof skin, windscreen and bonnet. Superb repair though
Its not that difficult to take it off, I think you'll have to disconnect the cable at the bonnet end though, if its anything like the bonnet catch on the 156. Mine was proper clarted up too
