Need answer today re: Engine question

When i go to start my 2000 Alfa Romeo Spider, i have to keep the key turned for atleast 1.5-2second before it turnsover(starts up), is this normal?

Also just after i start up, the car revs its self up and down between 1000 and 500rpm like it idles then cuts out(but doesnt stop) then idles higher then cuts out(but doesnt stop). Is this normal? if not what could it be.

Its getting some things fixed under warrenty, so finding out afew other problems for them to work on.

Re: Need answer today re: Engine question

You could try cleaning the MAF and Throttle Butterfly (not if it's 'fly by wire') and then resetting the throttle sensor. Routine is something like, key in MAR position for 90sec (not started), key off for 90 sec, then start....

A few searches on here will find more info and there is also a guide on the Alfa156 forum.
