Re: What to pay for a DECENT V6
Yes as above really :
2K for essentially a V6 for TS money - expect to budget 2k to get upto decent scratch. Probably 1 or 2 big jobs need doing ie. clutch/gearbox/head gasket on top of odds and ends.
3-4K A GTV which has lost the big snags but still has the niggly faults ie. squeaky bushes, airbag light + a general service.
4-5K A GTV which is mechanically well maintained with a good history, all major work completed ie. cambelt/bushes/clutch and has no niggly faults. At this price level should also have a good bodyshell with no major dents/scratches and solid all round paint work which many of the cheaper versions do not.
5K + A GTV with all major/minor jobs recently completed, drives perfectly, full years MOT, pristine bodywork. Possible tuning upgrades but nothing too OTT to take away the basic appeal of the car.
For a ball park figure for a solid car I would say 4-4.5K.
It like all cars depends how you want to do it - some people spend two K on the car, then two K on jobs.
Some people spend four K on the car to begin with.
