Hi alfa dem and Fred,
Yes the old road was great fun back in the 70's, very little traffic and in the right car, an Alfa, you could really enjoy it. First time did it in a hired Marina
, second time was on a Honda 65cc motorbike, after that the 'sud.
I know Cyprus pretty well, was there in the RAF, my ex is a Cyprus girl and we went back to live there in the early 90's, alas it didn't work out for me and I left to work in Oman after 5 years, divorce wasn't far off at that point........ My son is still there, he's the Chief Flying Instructor at the Larnaca flying school. My ex is still there of course but let's not mention that.............
I certainly did buy the 'sud new, if I remember I paid just under CYŁ2K ( Duty Free ) and owned it for about 18 very enjoyable months. I wanted to bring it back to the UK but in those far off days it was very difficult to organize, in the end the bureaucracy and the shipping details defeated me and I gave up and sold it back to Demades against a PX back here, got about CYŁ2.2K, the first and only time I have ever made money on any car deal ! It was subsequently sold to another RAF guy up at Troodos but I heard that he crashed it off the old road bridge at the Troodos turn off between Episkopi and Limassol and wrote it off.
The only new car I could afford back here, excepting Skodas/Ladas etc, was an MG Midget, the wife hated it and I wasn't mad keen so it was soon changed for another 'sud ti, this one was second hand and the worst of the many 'suds that I have owned. Looked good but it was never right, nothing ever definite but niggly and worrying. Piccie below.
Cheers from an old Cyprus hand, where's me Keo and the Cyprus paint Stripper, er Brandy, not forgetting the Pandemonium wine ! ( St Pantelemon. )
