3L Thermostat, auxilliary belt, and spring pan arm adventure ahead

Hi - going to replace the thermostat, auxilliary belt and remove the spring pan arm at the weekend (the last one to see if some grrease can stop the awful squeaking and also see if i can just swap in a new one if it doesnt). Got a warmish gagrage, tools and some spannering ability through a mispent youth repairing my frequently crashed mototbikes... also the manual (thanks to this site) and all looks fairly straightforward. Any obvoius pitfalls and or advice if you've done any of these jobs?
