Re: Engine types and ecus confusion...
I too have been looking for the 3-pin diagnostic socket on my ph1 2.0ts spider. According to the original Alfa workshop manual (ebay cd type) its located near the ECU. Trouble is, the manual is for l/h drive cars and shows the ECU and socket located somewhere in vicinity of passenger side (our driver side).
It seems, however, that like the steering wheel, its located on the opposite side on r/h drive cars as I've finally found the ECU on passenger side under glovebox, behind carpet of bulkhead. But I'm blowed if I can find the test socket. However, there appears to be a 3-pin socket in engine bay fixed to the abs unit on opposing side of bulkhead to that of ECU with the letters P.E.O on its dust cover. Anyone know if this is the diagnostic socket for the main ECU or just for the ABS ECU?
Anyway, I've got it booked in with local Indy on Wednesday to have it hooked up for a diagnostic test as my spider refuses to idle at all (though it'll rev fine with my foot on accelerator and engine management extinguishes on startup) so I'll find out exactly where the test socket is then. (Obviously, I'll post the definitive answer on here afterwards!!)
