Re: coolant going bye bye
H/Gasket can be checked by having a test of the coolant (for CO) or pressure testing the system, or compression testing the cylinders.. though when I cooked my h/g the CO and pressure tests didn't spot anything.
I was getting gas in the rad' though (gas was being blown into the water channel, so no oil or coolant mixing was happening, hence no mayo') and that was air-locking the rad.
Try bleeding the rad. If air comes out.. fine.. but try it again in a few days and see if more comes out. If air is genuinely in there, bleeding ought to get rid of it for good. If it keeps coming back.. it can only be gas from a leaking gasket.
If the header tank cap is knacked, you will be loosing coolant from there and that will stain the bonnet lining or leave coolant all round that area.. it's unlikely to be the cap.
No bullets for Chaingun..
