Gear Lever Linkage problem?
Not sure if anyone else has had this problem, but it's happened to be twice in 2 weeks and is scaring my GF from driving the car.
What is happening is that at some point (not sure if it's me being too rough with the gearbox or something) the ball-joint is slipping out of the hole (socket?) at the bottom of the gear lever. This means I only get 3rd and 4th gear as the gear stick won't be able to engage the linkage part for the others. For some reason the whole linkage part (cylinder?) seems to be slip out which means the ball-joint doesn't fit in the hole/socket. To fix I can leverage it back in. However, it's just a pain and I'm not sure what's causing it to happen so much.
I'll try and upload to pic to show what it looks like as I'm pretty sure my explanation doesn't make sense. And apologies if I've called things by the wrong name.
I've tried searching to see if anyone else has had the same problem, but haven't had any luck. Any ideas on how to stop this happening would be appreciated!
** Photo worked! You can see how the metal cylinder part on the left is stuck out about an inch. It should be in flush with the white plastic. Also, this pic shows the plastic bushing not on the ball joint - this has been replaced, but would also love to know best place to get replacements. Been searching, but they seem hard to find!**
