Should injectors turn on Twin Spark?

This may sound like a stupid question to some people, but as I havent had to fix a car for 9 years I am a bit rusty.

My query is about the injectors at the back of the engine. I can twist 2 of them is this normal (is it an injector cap?)

After twisting them a litle bit the car did seem to idle a bit smoother. I did this to try and find out why my car is idling roughly and using a lot of fuel (temp guage also reading 80 - 85 instead of 90, maf disconnect makes no difference).

Got 47 miles on 11 quid of unleaded @ 70mph cruise speed (92.9p / litre), which is not as good as it used to be (I think? / been stored for three months!).

Haven't tested on road since turning injectors, as need to renew insurance tommorow.
